  2. Nymr83 wrote: i didnt watch tonight solely to avoid another stop on the Jeter retirement tour. I went out to get my karaoke on last night. Every time I turned to the TV, they were shooting Jeter. Clapping, sitting, breathing --- doing absolutely nuttin'.
  3. That's what the deal is. Sometimes you prefer going when you feel like going, and getting a slight discount to get seats in a package deal for when you don't feel like like going isn't a bargain at all, especially when you don't have the energy to come up with a strategy to move the tickets you aren't going to use. Too bad Miss Package Deal doesn't at least get your modest purchase on her ledger. Her job sounds not all that different from entry level jobs in high finance. Hire twenty each year and keep whichever two find a way to hustle sales out of cold calls. I think she had summer jobs with the Durham Bulls or somesuch. I'm rooting for her. You should trade Broadway tickets for Mets tickets with her.

  5. Allan Dykstra, your AAA homerun derby champ. Runner up: former Mets prospect Francisco Pea.
  6. Fricken' homered fricken' twice more to-fricken'-night.
  7. There was nothing cheap about the route. I don't understand. They invested, and it's paying off. Which move was preferable? I mean, he's not a guy that excites you in the long run. Well, me neither, but great, because they didn't sign him for the long run.
  8. Woodworking.
  9. What would have represented a go-for-it move? Tanaka?
  10. Fangraphs says he's already given 'em $6 million in value.
  11. But for now, the Mets are still starting the mostly effective but not part of the future Matsuzaka. The idea is to win, right? Mejia should be at least on the depth chart for starters. Particularly above non-40 man guys like Lannan who might show up again. Mejia starts in 2014: 7 Lannan starts in 2014: 0 The team has solved problems and here we are fabricating problems they don't have. There is a surfeit of quality young pitchers. More than five. Some will necessarily be needed to staff the pen. That's a reality.
  12. Why was signing Colon throwing in the towel?
  13. Ceetar wrote: I doubt Mejia is pulled from the pen either, but he could be, and probably should be, given the respective value of starters to relievers. That implies that there are five capable pitchers. There are more. That's the point. I don't doubt that Mejia will be pulled. I believe that we will see Jeff Francouer start a game for the SHaMs before we see Mejia do so. Such is the nature of my deep and abiding faith.
  14. That's the first I've heard that Hefner won't appear in 2014. No way is Mejia being pulled from the pen.
  15. I imagine we can get something more than a usable part. A solid and effective part, I would conject.
  16. It certainly wouldn't be throwing in the towel. His job was always to hold down a slot in the rotation until it fills with younger arms. It's filling.
  17. Despaigne's good. A Cuban who debuted after seven games in the minors. Like Wheeler, he's hard to hit, harder to homer off of, but gives up more than his share of walks.
  18. It was simply one of those placating moves to appease the fans/media and to try to change the conversation (and that mostly worked) I don't think it was placating. I think it was re-upping a manager whose team turned around following his interim appointment. It was shortsighted and conservative, but contracts are doled out on such terms all the time. OE: Unless you mean the initial interim appointment.
  19. Screenplay by Mark Bomback. How can I resist?
  20. Mets at the Break in the Terry Era 2010 Mets going into the break: 4-6 2010 Mets coming out of the break: 2-8 2011 Mets going into the break: 5-5 2011 Mets coming out of the break: 4-6 2012 Mets going into the break: 6-4 2012 Mets coming out of the break: 1-9 (This would extend to 1-11) 2013 Mets going into the break: 6-4 2013 Mets coming out of the break: 5-5 I suspect the trend LF detects would be even more pronounced if we extended the envelope to 20 games in each direction, but even at 10, the data supports him.
  21. Unfortunately, Philadelphia hasn't been cooperating with the Mets recent surge, losing the last two to Washington, so while the Mets have knocked four and a half games off their deficit in the Net column since our update before this series, they've only gained a single game in the Games Back Column. Next team to set your sights on is Pittsburgh, four games ahead in the Wild Card. They, like the Mets, open after the break against a bottom-feeder --- the Rockies. Hope that Colorado finds themselves. The Marlins, now a hair behind the Mets, open against the Giants, current Wild Card co-leaders, on Friday. Root Miami! 22. So, deGromeo may be built like Wheeler, but he has been every bit as in control of his game as Harvey was last season. When he misses the strike zone, I'm just getting the notion that he didn't want to hit it. And the ability to get strikeouts when he needs them is positively Harvenian.
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Between the now universal four-day break and the fact that we're ending on the east coast and starting on the west, I'd have to think that this will be the longest in-season time frame without NYM baseball aside from the forced break caused by 9/11? Well, there were those two extended strikes.
  24. Third place smells better than fourth or fifth ever did.
  25. Colon takes on [crossout:tz9zak6y]Tyson Ross, San Diego's lone All-Star representative. Ross also pitching today, so I guess that takes him out of the ASG.[/crossout:tz9zak6y] Ian Kennedy. Padres losers of four of their last five and six of their last eight. Currently hitless against the Dodgers in the third. Hitting. They don't do a whole lot of that.
