  1. Don't think the Mets are committed to replenishing starting pitching depth? Well, meet Blake Beavan, signed out of the Mexican League to take over a roster spot in Las Vegas recently made available by the addition of Wilfredo Boscan to the DL. Beavis is a prototype big (6'7", 245), Texas (Irvine High School) righthander, a former first round draft pick (2007, 17th overall, Rangers) whose main claim to fame may be being part of the trade that send Cliff Lee from Seattle to Texas. He has 44 big league starts and last pitched in the majors in 2014. Despite his size, he's very much a low-strikeout/low-walk control specialist. I'm impressed they're already circulating a head shot of him in a Mets cap. These things are important. 2. If four o'clock rolls around and the Mets haven't announced thier lineup, I suspect there's a transaction involved. And if there is, it's probably about whether or not to activate Montero if they're only going to see the game he is needed to start called off.
  3. Hey guys, if the game gets rained out, let's not tell Koehler, and see how long it takes him to figure it out.
  4. I'd also like to send both teams to Miami and trade this doomed series for a future Miami series to be moved to New York. The main problem with that is that, while ticket holders for this weekend's series in New York would get some August date instead (more or less their current predicament), ticket holders for some August date in Miami would be surprised and kinda screwed being told they have to be at the gate tonight or lose their ticket. Of course, that would likely be no more than 19 people.
  5. I think continuing from the fourth should be a viable option. Men fought and died last night. Honor that. Don't sweep it under the historical rug.

  7. If this game goes down, it'll be Terry Collins' 1,000th as Mets manager.
  8. Centerfield wrote: Maybe it can rain until Noah and Ces are ready. Noah would certainly be living up to his name. I think Ray Ramirez is about 1.7% responsible for what happened to Syndergaard.
  9. Well, that would be one turn not having to worry about the #5 starter.
  10. Philadelphia and Miami lose, so they move from fourth into a tie for second without even playing.
  11. Kyle Regnault coughed up two in two innings tonight for Bingo, so now there are five remaining unblemished records, three if you don't count the emergency pitchers..
  12. Well, as we wait out the rain delay down here in Atlanta's Fulton County Stadium, we invite you to anachronistically enjoy these highlights from the Mets' 2015 season. We hope to be back with you shortly, but until then, I invite the boys in the truck to take it away! [youtube:3g89kib8]9NQVmGK60_Q[/youtube:3g89kib8]
  13. It WAS a tough play. Not as tough as catching Bruce's clubbing. Mercy.
  14. Rivera wouldn't have spiked that throw.
  15. What the deuce is that section in right field? It looks like press box with love seats and aluminum desks.
  16. Rivera would have had that ball.
  17. If last year is any indication, you get the best out of Cabrera after he's good and messed up. But man, that guy gets himself good and messed up.
  18. Way to strike out Conforto twice.
  19. No Curtis, no Walker in our righthanded gala of a lineup. But is there a Conforto? Oh, yes, there is. And again, welcome back to Flores. STAPH IS NO LAPH! 20. Or if you go into the ninth leading 10-0, and suddenly give up run after run as you cycle a parade of impotent relievers out there trying to get three outs, and hang on for a 10-9 victory, sweating to the last, it's not quite the same momentum kick as going to the ninth down nine runs, and pounding out run after one for a victory of the same 10-9 margin.
  21. Also, winning the final game of a series, or the final game of a road trip or homestand is preferable to winning the next-to-last. You want to go out a winner. Get on the plane with a sense of momentum. Psychology!
  22. Yeah, that sounds like shit. I retract that. "I don't stand by anything!"
