  1. Hey, Gary Apple, it was Hendrix that played the national anthem. Come on, Keith. Lay him out for that.
  2. Weird Sewald Fact: Paul's Players Weekend nickname last year was ... "Paulie." He somehow has about 11 nicknames in this forum, but none in the Mets clubhouse. Even Eric Goeddel had "Goopy."
  3. Wait, Cohen isn't back?
  4. Three things I notice re-reading the Sewald notes above: I'm not sure what my reference to Puerto Rico was. Did Sewald play for Team Puerto Rico? Did I just confuse him with Seth Lugo? Ed O'Neil played for the 1890 Maumees. That's the third team nickname today that I am just seeing for the first time. What's a Maumee? Scott Ruffcorn. There's a name. Indeed, there's a name for a guy grinding out a winless record over five seasons as a bullpen backender.
  5. I guess when he's playing third, he's Miggier than usual, but I expect him to be more Reubenesque than anything.
  6. One of those guys who hits well enough until you trick yourself into depending on it. It probably has nothing to do with anything, but Rosario's defense seemed to begin visibly improving after Hech showed up, particularly on balls close to the ground.
  7. Valencia has me curious. I'm not quite sure where he'd play, but ... well, who says he has to play?
  8. I figured there was no way that Pete would be putting a dent in the rookie RBI record. Before our era, a slugger of his capacity didn't screw around batting second, but was always put in the best situation to pick up RBI in the 3-4-5 positions. Did you know there was a baseball outfit called the 1914 Buffeds? I didn't! Didn't know about the 1911 Rustlers either! Also, with those five relievers each getting one inning, it doesn't necessarily stand to reason that any or all of them are too gassed to be promoted. Nogosek has to get a second look sooner or later. He's been the stingiest guy in Stingetown this season.

  11. Bring in deGrom, you poops!
  12. A trio of ninth-inning homers and they ... go ... to ... Diaz? Glub.
  13. Well, four runs for Atlanta was not quite what I was hoping to see when I got back from the bathroom.
  14. Alonso too. He's been living up the middle of late.
  15. Use up all your hits on the Yankees, Cleveland.
  16. Gary Snapple just called Ramos "Rosario." One or two malapropisms doesn't make you Ralph Kiner, Gary!
  17. =kcmets post_id=18991 time=1565920400 user_id=53] The dimming the lights and everyone doing their lighted chop thing is just plain repulsive.
  18. This goofy bullpen here at White Flight Stadium forces Ricky Bones to cross in front of his warming-up pitchers to get the phone.
  19. Stroman gets the out, nobody on base, and he's yanked. Doesn't anybody listen to cooby?
  20. Great catch and great gamesmanship by Acuña. Tomlin really doesn't seem to have anything working at all. He's just putting the ball in play.
  21. The Alonso power surge may have fallen off in the last week, but he's still above the Foster Line. And now, he's the National League's all-time rookie home run co-champion.
