  1. Top Mets pitching prospect as 1988 ended, went with Aguilera and Tapani in the Viola deal. Pitched in the 1991 and 1993 World Series.
  2. Despite the elephant-shaped suspensions in the room, I was impressed by how many teammates throughout his Met tenure swore by this guy very specifically, citing guidance they found meaningful. More than once I mused privately — because it sounded too bizarre to say aloud — that Cano could have been a legit player-manager candidate during those intervals when the Mets were searching for a skipper (with the player part receding quickly and the manager part excluding weight-training supplement advice). He also seemed like more of a mensch than I imagined when I watched him in action at the January 2020 FanFest. Up to that point, I wanted him to go away. I kind of liked him after that, at least until he tested newly positive. If anything, Cano as a Met reminded me of El Duque and Hershiser. I forgot all about past nettlesome associations and enjoyed the best that his twilight had to offer.
  3. Max isn't just undiplomatic to batters and umpires.
  4. Decent power year in progress.
  5. Three-homer game in 2019, not a juicing year as far as testing knows.
  6. Robinson Cano is a San Diego Padre.
  7. Willets Point wrote: The Mariners are a team I know nothing about. Remeet Chris Flexen and Paul Sewald, plus fleeting Met nemesis Jesse Winker.
  8. From the Mets: James McCann underwent an x-ray this morning that revealed a fracture of his left hamate. He will undergo surgery, and the typical timeline for recovery from this injury is approximately six weeks. He has been placed on the 10-Day IL.
  9. McCann to the IL. Mazeika up (will wear No. 4).
  10. No Kelenic in Flushing this weekend, which makes it like every other weekend. NEW YORK, N.Y. — Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves: · Sergio Romo, RHP, reinstated from 10-day Injured List. · Steven Souza Jr. (#21), OF, selected from Triple-A Tacoma. · Mike Ford (#70), INF, reports to club. · Adrian Sampson, RHP, claimed off waivers from Chicago-NL. · Jarred Kelenic, OF, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma. · Danny Young, LHP, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma. · Stuart Fairchild, OF, optioned to Triple-A Tacoma and designated for assignment. · Yohan Ramirez, RHP, designated for assignment. https://marinersblog.mlblogs.com/mariners-select-souza-jr-reinstate-romo-ford-reports-to-club-sampson-claimed-off-waivers-8dd29110b7e8https://marinersblog.mlblogs.com/mariners-select-souza-jr-reinstate-romo-ford-reports-to-club-sampson-claimed-off-waivers-8dd29110b7e8
  11. The transfer of the Astros to the AL was intended, at least in a byproduct way, to codify the Interleague scheduling. The Mariners missing in Flushing since Shea (I was there for Felix Hernandez's grand slam off Johan) replaced, at least for me, the mystery of why the White Sox never visited either of our ballparks clear to 2013. And we went from 2004 until 2019 without seeing Cleveland in these parts. Next year, as everybody plays everybody, these charming/vexing quirks appear ready to fall away. Then again, it's MLB. They'll think of something.
  12. The Mariners were due at Citi Field in 2020 until the pandemic had other ideas. Still a long time. I noticed the Orioles' visit to Busch Stadium this week was their first, and that joint opened in 2006
  13. The hopefully discombobulated Mariners make their first-ever visit to Citi Field, where, for all they know, Max Scherzer has always pitched for the home team. Lefty Marco Gonzales goes for the squad from that other Washington. Jay Bruce is no longer with Seattle, thus eliminating all intrigue from the trade these opponents made several years ago.
  14. Also a TCBY Win*. *-Games after which the manager takes the team out for frozen yogurt, toppings included.
  15. Pads would pay the prorated minimum.
  16. Nogosek down to Syracuse (joining recent 27th fella Adonis Medina), Jake Reed up.
  17. Walker vs. Adon in a getaway matinee that we hope doesn't get away. Nimmo CF Marte RF Lindor SS Alonso 1B McNeil 2B Canha LF J.D. Davis DH Guillorme 3B Nido C
  18. Alejandro de Aza waddles over to Central Islip.
  19. Do you really expect him to say, "Ya know, thinkin' it over, I wrecked my arm and aborted my career, and lost my shot at the Hall of Fame, all for the sake of a stupid, ego-driven error that doesn't add up to a hill of beans. I was a world-class jerk, throwing more pitches than my poor arm could take, and I'm ashamed of my machismo self"? Even if that's how he really feels? I don't expect that's something Johan Santana or any actual person would say.
