Announced attendance for Wednesday night's rain-shortened victory over the Phillies: 19,617, or ~18,617 more than were evident via television and eyewitness report. Noteworthy is this was the first sub-20,000 attendance ever reported by the Mets in the Citi Field era and, as such, the lowest paid attendance in the ballpark's nine-year history. Last Shea attendance that was lower was April 5, 2006, second game of the year, a chilly night that officially drew 19,557. That was also the last sub-20,000 gate the Mets reported at Shea.

Of course paid attendance numbers have regularly eluded the eye test since 1993, the year the NL switched from turnstile count to tickets sold. Hard to imagine 19,617 tickets were sold for a Mets-Phillies game at this moment in time.
