Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 The Mets attempt to stymie their own GM in his plans to break up his team, as a pair of struggling starters lock horns, with Daniel Gossett (1–5, 5.79) going up against Rafael Montero (1–6, 5.40).Gossett had one of his best starts of the season last time out, giving up three runs in seven innings against Tampa. He's given up 10 homers in only 37 1/3 innings, so, you know, make a note of that. A BIG note.Montero did OK his last go-round also, giving up four runs, but only two earned, in six innings against St. Louis. He also kept his customary wildness in check, walking only one, and being around the plate most of the game. Raffy differs markedly from Gossett (who is both an officer and a gentleman) by yielding only two dongs in 45 innings this season. Also notable is the well deserved night off that Blevvy and Reed got this evening, hopefully leaving them each daisy-fresh for Sunday's drama.Neil Walker played five innings today for Vegas, going 1-3. I guess it's possible he could be activated for tomorrow's game, but I'm betting on a Monday return. Also on the line in this game will be a chance to catch St. Louis into the standings, acquiring a delectable share of sixth place in the Wild Card standings.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 Cool to see all the girls out there on the field for the anthem.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Game on! Hopefully this doesn't go like most of our Sunday games have gone.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 Shake it off, Raffy. Your team is resilient, and you can be too!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 Grandy the bench player = Grandy the hustler.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 A lot of 3-2 counts, but it's good to see how behind Montero the crowd is.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 ConfortoBOOM!Got to bat him third.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Sigh. We do tend to give it back pretty quickly.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 We also know how to pick a key runner off third, when necessary.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 Montero joins the club with his first big league hit, but a run is potentially saved as Gossett snags a crack up the middle.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Boy this game is Madness.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 Yeah, thanks for the outs on the basepaths, Elephants.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 That would have been a nice time to take the free bunt single, Luke.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 Interesting that the A's to play the corners in but the middle back there. I guess the latter was to protect against the second run.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 The wrong guy is giving up the homers here.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 So, Cabrera to lead off, right?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 Blake trynin' for the third straight day.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Keith's a music critic now.We can't go scoreless off Blake Treinan for a second night in a row. We just can't.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Or maybe we can.Treinen's been better so far for the A's [4 innings, 1 hit] than Doolittle has been for the Nats [2 innings, 2 runs].
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 The Smoker Josh gets the better we hit ... or something like that.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2017 Author Posted July 23, 2017 Reyes, René Rivera, and likely Céspedes in the ninth. Also have d'Arnaud available.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 23, 2017 Posted July 23, 2017 Smokey needs to put out this fire first.
