Every day, I check which minor leaguers have been loaned up to the big league team for a possible one-day showcase/fantasy experience. It helps me keep up with minors, and it's fun. Special surprise today.

3/30/17 RHP Harol Gonzalez assigned to New York Mets.

Definitely a guy worth looking at, following a 2.01 ERA in 13 starts at Brooklyn last year.

3/30/17 SS Jio Mier assigned to New York Mets.

Never heard of this guy. I'm not sure if he's under contract or on loan from the Méxican League for a tryout or something.

3/30/17 C Dave Racaniello assigned to New York Mets.

Whoah! A potential debut 20 years in the making!

These look like paper moves made necessary because I guess they were charging admission for today's NYM vs Las Vegas Mets tilt and all these "new" guys had to be official in order to get them into the game.
Racinello went 1 for 2 while batting leadoff and DH'ing. Mier was 0-1 after coming on to relieve Cabrera at SS. And Harol (where's my 'D'?) Gonzalez started and went six innings, ceding 4 runs on 9 hits to the Las Vegaterrians in a 5-4 NYM win.

HRs for Bruce (playing for the NYM) and also Flores and TJ Rivera (for LV).

Good for Racaniello. Amazin' good. I imagine somebody grooved him one. But I like to think he takes batting practice twice a week in case the Mets are in an emergency in Miami and suddenly need to activate a backup catcher while the 51s are in Portland.

If there's anything that the Mets don't need, it's AAA shortstops, and beaters and others are suggesting Jio Mier is ticketed for AAA. But I'm speculating that he ends up in Vegas, joining an infield of Smith (1b), Evans (2b), Gavin Cecchini (3b), and Rosario (ss) with Mier and Matt Reynolds backing up. Ty Kelly moves (primarily) to the outfield, where the system really does need depth.
