My goodness.Potentially lost in the legend of McGraw (and he's one of the handful for whom "legendary" seems wholly appropriate) is how frigging good a relief pitcher he was. Probably the best lefty out of the pen in the National League between '69 and '73. One of my favorite facts I've found in my research is Tug still holds the record for most K's by a Met reliever in a single outing: nine strikeouts in four innings versus the Padres in 1971.
