RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 It's not your imagination the Mets played a lot of extra inning games this year. I just ran the numbers. The team has 995.2 innings pitched, putting them seventh of MLB. But the Mets have only played 108 games. They thus play 9.214 innings/per game, the most by any team.Second is Arizona, with 9.15.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 Yeah Gary mentioned that on today's telecast.Though the Mets have played fewer games than any team in the league they've played the most (or maybe it was second most) innings to date on account of all the extra inning games. In addition, the 48 extra innings so far is only a small number off the NYM team record for a year and the record for any team in any season was possibly in reach as well although I forget the exact numbers for each.
dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2013 Posted August 4, 2013 That's one way to give more value for the fans' money. Forty-eight is almost 5% of the total innings pitched this year. The New York Mets, now with 5% extra innings! Extra innings means extra cleaning power means extra fun!
