Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Officer Joe Blanton making his first start since May and only expected to go two innings. One way to get an edge out of a September roster is to start a lesser guy for two innings and then pulling him for your better pitcher, largely neutralizing any platoon advantage the opposing manager was going for.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 It's easy to dismiss the Phils' current 7-game losing streak as the product of post-clinching syndrome, but their offensive drought actually goes back further than that. They've now scored just 38 runs over the last 16 games (4-12 over that time) - and nine of those runs came in just one game so, taking that one out, it's 29 runs over 15. Hard to believe that offense can go into such prolonged slumps like that (esp at that park) but it's not the first stretch they've had like that this year.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Got through game one without using a lefty. Hopefully that plays into our favor. Can't remember Byrdak handling the Phils well earlier in the year, however, back when the stakes were higher.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Between that lineup and Blanton only being sked to go two innings, all's we're missing is players getting their jogging in on the outfield track during the game.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Kind of surprised to see Reyes sitting. Seems like the Mets are trying to nurse him to the title.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Or nurse him more literally, and continue to do so until contract time.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Mets futilely pinch-hit for Gee, and Parnell is on for the seventh, trying out his new knuckle curve.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Parnell is in to pitch the 7th.I guess we're trying to make this interesting....
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 And the doubleheader sweep is in the books!
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I have the Phillies postgame show on (because I'm waiting for the local news down here), and am finding it schadenfreudenly entertaining.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Phils used 22 guys in game two.
