bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Great story. What was most impressive was the fact that the older boy didn't hesitate when he saw how upset the younger boy was. Tx attgig.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 I told this story back in MOFo days, but I was at YSII one time back in college. During the effluvium period, we're herding toward the exits, and I hear behind me, "Hey! That guy stole my kids ball!"I turn, everybody's walking except one guy about my age who's got a dickish look on his face, a baseball in his hand, weaving through the crowd, skipping as he changes direction, and laughing with evil glee. He seemed like a badass and feeling-no-pain drunk, so rather than take him on, I do what you should all do when a fleeing burglar sails past you, and stuck my foot out.I figured he'd stumble into the crowd, but hadn't realized the crowd was kind of dividing to get out of his way, and he flew about ten feet before he landed... hard. He's kind of stunned to find that his race is over, and I walk up to him ready to be all Cary Grant: "Now see here, old man, you had your sport and all, but what say you return the ball and we put this all behind us?"In fact get to about "Now..." when the father arrives. He elbows me out of the way... hard! And he starts wailing on the thief the way only guys at the ballpark can wail. BAM!-do you want another? BAM!-do you want another? BAM!-do you want another?I guess it was time for me to pull him off. I'd broken up ballpark fights before --- at Shea. But this was vi-o-lent, and I was kinda thinking I had done enough. The crowd started crushing around us all, and I really didn't feel like getting picked up by the NYPD with the combatants. And where did this guy leave his kid, anyhow? I crawled between a pair of ringside legs found my friend Martin, and never looked back.I mean that literally, I think. My last visit ever to YSII, III or what have you.
