We get a day game from the Mets today and get to cap it off with Johan's first rehab start tonight in St. Lucie, home of some sweet fishing and some scary teenage parties. (Daytona is, of course, the birthplace of Ed Charles.)

I think he's limited to, like, seven pitches.

Watching Santana warm up for his 6:30 start. Appears loose, good arm action. Getting warmed up won't be a problem in this heat. #Mets

Santana's first inning: no runs, one hit, one HBP, two K's, three swings and misses in 18 pitches. Some rust, but overall not bad.

No scoreboard radar, so my best guess is that Santana was between 88-90 in first inning.

Seven-pitch inning for Santana in the 2nd: one-out double into the left field corner, but erased on a liner to short DP. #Mets

RT @stluciemets: Santana 1-2-3 third inning. Two groundouts and strikeout. Scoreless game bottom 3rd.

one of the Cubs batters bunted, went off Santana's glove, who then dove for it, spun and threw out the runner. Not quite what I wanted him to be working on ;-) nice play by Flores too supposedly.

Not that close to the 45-pitch limit, but they problably gave him another batter or two on an adjacent field. Other than that. Couldn't ask for better, huh?

The batter he hit was named "Watkins." Probably pissed that the apothecary ointment isn't working anymore.

he said on the post game it was 45 pitches or 3 IP. It doesn't sound like they're going to immediately build him up to 100, so not sure if they need to push him to 45 yet. Of course, some of this is what Ojeda said, and I don't trust him. They talked about 30 days being optimistic, neglecting that it's not a target date, it's actually a hard and fast rule.

Not that they couldn't just shut him down again, but I think that requires another official stint on the DL which would mean he'd have to be on the roster which he's not? I dunno, it all gets fuzzy down there.
