G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2011 Posted June 29, 2011 He's already got the lot of them beat when it comes to base hits. The 1972 Mets played 156 games and none of them collected more than 96 hits. 2011 Jose Reyes has played 76 games and has 117 hits. And he's about to topple More Entire Teams.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 With his 119th hit of the 2011 season, Jose Reyes now has as many hits through 80 team games (77 played) as Richie Ashburn had for all of 1962 (135 games played) and George Foster had for all of 1985 (129 games played). He has passed Art Shamsky's 1970 (118 hits in 122 games played).h/t UMDB
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2011 Author Posted June 30, 2011 With his 121st hit of the 2011 season, Jose Reyes now has as many hits through 81 team games (78 played) as five Mets did in complete seasons, including Jeff Kent in 1994, the strike-shortened year Kent led the Mets in hits; Mike Piazza in 2004, when Piazza was the National League's All-Star catcher; Paul Lo Duca in 2007, Tommie Agee in 1971; and Ed Kranepool in 1976, the year Kranepool surpassed Cleon Jones for most hits in a Mets career. He has passed the 120 total of Jason Phillips from 2003, when Phillips established himself as Mets first baseman, and John Milner from 1976, when Milner hit three grand slams.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 With his 123rd hit of the 2011 season, Jose Reyes now has as many hits through 82 team games (79 played) as Gary Carter and Lenny Dykstra did in 1987 and Darryl Strawberry did in 1986; Darryl went 0-for-33 at Shea in August of 1986. He has passed the 122 total of Wally Backman in 1984 and Charley Smith in 1965; Jose's to-date 2011 hit total would place him third on the full-season 1965 Mets.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 With his 124th hit of the 2011 season, Jose Reyes now has as many hits through 83 team games (80 played) as Rey Ordoez did in 1998, when I still believed Jeter couldn't hold a candle to him, and Wally Backman did in 1986, when Backman hit .320 as part of a championship platoon with Tim Teufel. Backman played in 124 games in 1986; Ordoez played in 153 games in 1998.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 We now skip ahead One month into Reyes' rehab.Sorry Greg, can't help it. I feel ill.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 Maybe it's the Fran Healy in me talking, but I prefer to be cahn-fident that it's a minor thing. Too much injury-related dread the last 2-1/2 years.
