I want to say Biggio, but I don't want to say Biggio.

Nope.

When this guy's name comes up in conversation, the first number discussed is not one of his on-field stats.

Soriano

DING!

Soriano's 209 hits in 2002 was one better than Ichiro and three better than Vlad Guerrero.

2002 - ALFONSO SORIANO
2005 - MICHAEL YOUNG
2008 - DUSTIN PEDROIA (tie)

Still waiting on the guy whose big year came hitting in front of a future Met.

I wanted to guess Soriano form the start but was afraid to. FK's "can't walk" clue plus, "different position" made it easy.

Juan Pierre hit in front of a future Met, I think that's the guy, yes?

Check the board, Pierre's already been guessed (and shot down).

The Met who the final guy once 'hit in front of' is not a current Met.

Jeter's intangibles don't show up in any statistical measure.

Sorry, force of habit.

Yup. Vernon WElls with 215 hits in 2003, batting third in the Toronto lineup in front of cleanup man Carlos Delgado.
