Though this would be a smartish way to get him-- you've got as much trade leverage as you'll ever have if you're negotiating one-on-one, right?-- I'd bet my liver it ain't the Omar gang doing the claimin'.

(Granted, I may just make that bet without Dunn involved.)

That Dunn was first placed on, and then claimed off, the waiver wire isn't a bit surprising, nor is it all that telling IMO. Going UNclaimed would make it a more wide open field.
90+% of the league is usually put through this process and the claimer could be as much a blocking move as a real attempt to get him.
Problem with Boston being the one is that almost every team got their shot in before they did - every NL team and all the AL clubs with worse records.
Suxx about Youkilis - 'specially on the eve of a series w/the Yanx.

It would certainly be an interesting come back, it could be inspired. The Red Sox need help though right?

The media is certainly drooling at the storylines.

It's interesting that he negotiated a no trade clause though. can we really see him waiving it?

@SI_JonHeyman: RT @Tom_Gage Damon: "I have to think long and hard ... I hadn't even thought about playing for that team again. Never crossed my mind."

Higher-priced players with partial NT deals mostly try to block trades to other high-payroll clubs figuring that their salary will take care of low-payroll clubs from even thinking about dealing for them, in effect, giving them something close to full NT protection.
IOW, the existence of Boston on Johnny D's list doesn't necessarily mean that he's got bad blood there, only that if his current team does try to deal him there he'll have some kind of say in the matter. Sometimes that say is a 'Yes' or 'No', and sometimes it's an 'only if you pick up my option suckers'.
Wouldn't surprise me if the Yanx are on that list too, but not Pitt, or KC, or Miami.

To what FK said

@SI_JonHeyman: not that it matters in 2 cases, but damon has right to veto trades to #yankees and #rays as well as #bosox. 21 in all he can veto.

And it wouldn't surprise me if most or all of those 9 'can trade' teams are the poor sisters of MLB
Fans tend to read into those NT cities as if the player has a particular gripe against playing there - "oooh look, here's another guy who's afraid to come to Noo Yawk" - and they're usually wrong.

Damon staying with the Tigers twitter says.

I am sure they would have welcomed him back, especially if he was hitting and they were winning but by not going I supppse they will hate him forever....who's the idiot now?
