Bad day for the Mets and the NL East, but a good day for the Nationals, as moron Jim Bowden "resigns" as GM. In a classy move, he blames the media.

Here's a happy website:

Let's hope that Omar doesn't hire him as an adviser.

I wish resigns and resigns didn't look so much alike.

I get them mixed up all the time in my head.

BTW, how reliable is a source called Fire Jim Bowden Blogspot?

I'll go ask my cat.

I thought the latter was re-signs, but I'm pretty low on the English
totem pole in the pool.

Bowden had demonstrated enough incompetence to be fired before the story about the prospect who lied about his age broke. The unfortunate thing for the Nationals is that they could have had somebody better in place before the offseason started, and now the successor has to deal with a ridiculous glut of outfielders and first baseman and inadequacy nearly every place else.

I don't think he's the one to blame for the state of the Nats. Ownership has him under some serious constraints. They've gone back on most of their promises to the city, including stuff like paying rent.

He's the one to blame for a lot of their on-field difficulties, at least. He put together a roster with no fewer than 5 starting OFs and 3 first basemen, while securing less adequate pitching than a two-bit ad agency. Additionally, for a "rebuilding" team, he's got a suspiciously-unstocked cupboard in the minors (2-3 of the majors' top 100 prospects, with none in the "sure thing" category).

Considering he's ostensibly had full ops control for the last presidential term, you can lay a good amount of their travails at his soon-to-be-vacated doorstep.

Yeah, I don't think he's had full ops control. And while he has a lot of outfielders and firstbasemen, he got most of them on the cheap.

Bowden reigned in Washington after he was resigned but no more now that he's resigned.
