Methead Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 (edited) This dude could use some guidance. He's struggling to throw strikes so far in pro ball, but his numbers in high school weren't bad. Had a K/BB ratio of 54/18 during his senior season. I assume he was getting a lot more swings and misses than he is now. He's 6'3, 180 pounds, and doesn't even turn 18 until Aug 11.Here's a look at some stats while I track down more stuff. Methead Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2008 Author Posted July 22, 2008 The good news is, no one can get a hit off him. Opponents are batting just .143 against young Mike so far.His GCL Mets stats/roster page is here.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 Is it pronounced Hey-Bear? Cuz, you know, that would be cooler than HE-BERT.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted July 22, 2008 Author Posted July 22, 2008 I dunno. I've got good nicknames lined up either way.

Methead Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2008 Author Posted July 23, 2008 The little whippersnapper went 3 innings in relief last night to pick up his first professional win.Walked 2, struck out 3, gave up 1 hit, lowering his ERA to 3.72 in the process.Batters are now hitting .133 against him.edit : Box Score
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2008 Author Posted July 31, 2008 So much for that. Latest appearance on July 30, 1/3 of an inning, 6 earned runs.Go get 'em next time, kid.

Methead Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2008 Author Posted August 11, 2008 He's continuing to miss bats, as well as the plate.Full breakdown here
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 I know this kid was in the Instructional League over the winter, but I can't seem to figure out where he was sent after that.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 18, 2009 Posted June 18, 2009 Probably in extended spring training waiting for the short season leagues to begin.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted June 18, 2009 Author Posted June 18, 2009 Yeah... but I figured those teams might have rosters figured out at this point. I guess not.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2009 Author Posted July 28, 2009 After beginning the 2009 season in extended spring training, Hebert has surfaced with the Gulf Coast Mets... again. Repeating a season with them is probably for the best, since he couldn't find the plate in 2008.So far this year, he's performing better. In limited action (7 innings) he's only walked two batters, representing a huge improvement over last year. Plenty of time to get better - he doesn't even turn 19 until 8/11.As a reliever this season he's pitched 4 shutout innings.Full stats through two games:7IP, 4H, 1R, 4K, 2BB, 1.29 ERA
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2009 Author Posted August 4, 2009 Started a game on 8/3 and pitched 5 shutout innings.Opponents are batting just .195 off of him, however his K:BB ratio for the year so far stands at 5:4.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2009 Author Posted August 21, 2009 At the end of last season it was pretty obvious that Mike was going to have to quit walking so many batters, and it looks like he's making progress.Last season: 21 IP, 29 BBThis season: 23.1 IP, 13 BBAlso, his ground ball percentage is up to 63% - from 34% last season.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 I think his problem isn't his surfeit of walks any longer, but his deficit of innings.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2009 Author Posted August 21, 2009 Looks that way. He didn't join the team late July though, a month later than everyone else.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted December 26, 2009 Author Posted December 26, 2009 Still alive.http://macksmets.blogspot.com/2009/11/q-p-michael-hebert.html
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2010 Author Posted June 29, 2010 Mike's improvement last season has earned him a promotion to Single-A Kingsport in the Appalachian League. Let's hope he can pile up some innings this year. Here's his roster page.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted September 7, 2010 Author Posted September 7, 2010 Mike had some growing pains in Kingsport and went 3-7 with a 4.47 ERA over 56.1 innings. He had trouble staying consistent, pitching great one day and getting shelled the next. Seems like he may have been a little unlucky though, with a .360 BABIP.Despite the pedestrian numbers, he's been bumped up to Savannah, where he's been great thus far. Hopefully he starts off next season at that level too.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2011 Author Posted July 2, 2011 OK... he's back in rookie ball at age 21. The team's roster page lists his status as "rehab" so I guess he's getting back in shape before the inevitable bump back up to A-ball. Let's hope so anyway.Never thought to check youtube for video on this kid, but here's a decent one showing young Mike striking out some chump in Kingsport last year.
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2012 Author Posted April 4, 2012 Looks like my boy was released on 3/28/12.
