Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 These are my impressions:Portrayed as a victim of turmoil in the Baltimore front office (two GMs, disloyal staff) but also criticized for strategy decisions and not the favorite of all his players by the time it was finished.Doesn't strike me as as the most charming guy in his TV gig and actually kinda looks creepy and sullen, but I guess he has a presence and a matter-of-fact way of applying his knowledge: Nothing is a revelation, he sorta answers what is asked and leaves you wondering what else he knows.Apparently wowed the O's in interviews a la Art Howe. Had an OK first season, needed a good start in 05 to keep his job and got one... then awful out of the chute post ASB (16 of 20 losses, or something) and was whacked.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Torre had him bringing out the lineup card as early as 1979, so I gather he can be viewed as having been a protege all along. His interview success in Baltimore was based on him going in and knowing their farm system top to bottom.I'm certain he'd up our all-important ejection statistics. With Wagner in 13, I'd guess he'd go back to 16, but maybe he'd go off the board and try to surprise me. He used to always mess with me.
