Surprised this wasn't already a poll. Saw it on video last night. Sendup of rock biopics. Finally Jack White and Jack Black are in the same thing (White as Elvis Presley, Black as Paul McCartney). Some funny stuff but a lot of movies have some funny stuff. Glad I didn't see it in the theater, ok for video.

We need a point-five option or else we're left with an a-symmetrical nine tiers.

When I try to edit it doesn't let me edit the poll.

D-Dad and I saw it on On Demand this evening. It was silly, but funny - John C. Reilly was very good in the title role.

I loved Tim Meadows' scenes and I enjoyed some of the songs (I thought the Dylan-esque number was great), but I loathed the rest of it. I know some people swear by this movie, but my fiancee and I almost walked out of the theater about a half an hour in.

The growing ratio of film parodies to earnest films can certainly weaken the impact of the former.

Some films are better on cable. For $4.99 on On Demand I was amused. For $20-ish in a theater, I likely wouldn't have been as amused.

The quality of parodies has also eroded since Mel Brooks' heyday. The Wayans brothers' and Freidberg/Selzter's movies make no attempt at making jokes, instead relying on unadorned references to other movies for the "laughs". The best Zucker/Abrahams/Zucker and Mel Brooks movies would also involve much broader targets, like "westerns" and "noir", than the spoof movies of today, which target things like "300" and "Britney Spears' hair". Brooks' later movies were too specific (Spaceballs to Star Wars, Men in Tights to Prince of Thieves), and I think they suffer because of it.
I gave Walk Hard a look because I loved nearly everything Apatow had put on film up until that point (for example, I think the Kasdan directed/Apatow produced TV Set is great), but I was really disappointed by what turned out to be a specific Walk the Line spoof that attempted to draw laughs using naked references to pop culture (as opposed to drawing laughs using a naked guy, which actually worked for me).
