soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Saw this on Saturday night. If you are a NY Times crossword puzzle addict (as I am) its quite interesting. It focuses on the annual crossword puzzle tournament sponsored by the Times and its resident 'enigmatologist' and crossword puzzle editor, Will Shortz.Included are cameos and interviews by people like Bill Clinton, Jon Stewart (very funny of course), Daniel Okrent, Mike Mussina, The Indigo Girls etc.I liked it but recommend it only if you are a crossword puzzle fan
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 The peeps who should be interviewed are Kent Hrbek, Bill Shea (too late, I know), and the president of Eire.
Guest cooby Guests Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Soupcan, did you really get to see this?! As you know I am a puzzle nut too and I have read about it and thought it sounded interesting.I doubt that it will make it to my little berg though. And I would probably have to go by myself. Wouldn't it be fun to be in a crossword tournement? It has always been one of my fantasies

They finish Saturday puzzles in about 10 minutes flat - tops. That's just completely so far out of my league.2 - Shoving bamboo shoots under my fingernails would be preferable to spending any time in a room alone with any of them.
Guest cooby Guests Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Wow, that is amazing; how do they even write that fast?
Guest martin Guests Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 i saw this movie, and i loved it. i thought it was the second best of the nerd-contest trilogy, the other two being word wars (scrabble), and spellbound (spelling bees). spellbound is my favorite.i liked it partly because i just like to listen to really really smart people talk about anything, especially something they are very good at, because of the interesting way they express themselves, yunno, sometimes using the perfect word to describe whatever. it is satisfying when someone says something really well and they use a sort of obscure word to explain exactly what they mean. thats the kind of thing you get in conversations from these word master types.
Guest cooby Guests Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Soupcan's hinting, he wants it for his Hanukkah gift
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Are we doing that charity thing again? Where's JG?
Guest cooby Guests Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Weird change of subject, but yeah. I'll have time this year to head this up if JG can't
Guest cooby Guests Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 I asked my son to put this on his Blockbuster online list; we'll see if he does.
