Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 D-Dad and I are seeing the new Woody Allen film tonight, starring Scarlett Johansson and Hugh Jackman. I figured I'd set up the thread in advance, so I just have to post my review when I get home tonight. As a New Yorker living in exile, I generally enjoy Woody's films - even those that don't take place in New York.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 Ugh - this is a real disappointment. Woody Allen plays a vaudevillian-type magician in London, playing it like his characters from the Love and Death to Annie Hall era. Scarlett Johansson, who was so wonderful last year in Match Point, is grossly miscast as a ditzy wannabe journalist who is trying to track down a serial killer based on clues given to her from the grave by a recently deceased reporter (Ian McShane). Hugh Jackman is the son of royalty who may or may not be the serial killer.Obviously Woody thought that this material was much funnier and more interesting than it was. Don't pay good money to see this in the theater. Don't even splurge for pay-per-view. It really isn't very good.I've been spending the past hour apologizing to D-Dad for dragging him to this one.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted January 8, 2007 Posted January 8, 2007 Utter crap. Saw it on video this weekend. Woody Allen should stop appearing in his own movies, his schtick is really tired. The movie made no sense, wasn't funny, wasn't exciting, is one of the worst films he's made.
