The Mets improved their record to 17-8 with a little help from the Washington Nationals. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, "Father Time" Franco drew a walk. Endy Chavez came on to run for Franco in hopes of bringing the victory home for the Mets. Jose Reyes promptly singles to left and suddenly, the winning run stood at second base. Paul LoDuca hit a sharp ground ball to Nationals reliever Gary Majewski. Majewski took the gift of a tailor made double play ball and decided to exchange it for a Mets victory by throwing the ball into center field.

This was a nice win for the Mets. Anytime, Zambrano actually performs well and turns in a quality start has to be considered a bonus at this point. His spot in the rotation does not exactly inspire confidence, but last night he pitched a pretty good game. We can only hope that there is more of that in his future.

The bullpen continued it's strong performance. As Feliciano, Sanchez, and Wagner combined for 3 innings of scoreless, no hit relief.

Delgado continued to endear himself to Mets fans with his 10th home run of the season in the sixth inning. Thankfully, he has made last springs talk about Eye Chart's superior defense making up for the difference in their hitting abilities a silly discussion of the past. I hope Delgado continues to illustrate the chasm that exist between the value of Scrabble and himself.

In honor of last night's performance, the POTG shall receive a six pack of Washington's own Foggy Bottom Ale. I enjoyed several of them at the CPF outing at JFK last July 4th. In a gesture only fitting of his valuable contribution to the Mets victory, a six pack shall also be sent to the visitors locker room for Gary Majewski. I think it only fitting to express our appreciation for his wonderful gift last night.

I was torn between Delgado and Zambrano. I eventually went with Zambrano, because giving up one run in six innings in a game with meager Mets offense was pretty great.

I can't see voting for Reyes after his baserunning blunder (getting picked off trying to stretch a double into a triple, especially since he didn't bust it out of the box) likely cost the Mets an early run on a night that runs were hard to find.
