Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 For the second game in a row the Mets exorcised some of their past demons with a victory over the Braves at Turner Field. The Mets showed that great pitching and a home run will win out over great pitching alone everytime. Tom Glavine and John Thompson locked up in a classic pitchers duel with both refusing to yield. In the sixth inning, Thompson became the first to blink when he got a pitch up and Mets catcher Paul LoDuca made him pay with a home run to left field. That lone run would be all the Mets pitchers would need on this night. Tom Glavine delivered a masterful performance as he pitched 7 innings of shut out baseball. Aaron Heilman struck out two and didn't allow a runner in his inning of work in the eighth. Billy Wagner gave up a weak infield single (some generous scoring by the home scorekeeper) to Chipper Jones leading off the ninth. Andruw Jones grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to erase the threat. Wagner then struck out Francoeur swinging with some high cheese to end the game and preserve the Mets victory. The Mets are playing loose and having so much fun that even Carlos Beltran decided to play. Beltran contributed a double and a walk in his first start since April 20th.We continue to enjoy the spoils of victroy. Tonight we shall sample the efforts of the Atlanta Brewing Company and forward a well deserved case of Red Brick Ale for the victorious Mets to savor.Edited to fix boxscore link.
