I'm about halfway through Adam Rubin's book. For the most part it's review for me, although there are some interesting tidbits I didn't know before.

I can't believe that there hasn't been more buzz about Rubin's intimation that the real reason behind the Kazmir trade was management's suspicion that Kazmir smoked pot as a minor leaguer. Also, Jim Duquette feels that the Devil Rays misled him about Victor Zambrano's health, which implies that he did not do enough independent due diligence before pulling the trigger on that deal.

Who else is reading this book?

And isn't it hilarious that KC had him pegged as a stoner the first time he saw a picture of the kid as a high school senior?

I finished it a couple of weeks ago.

It was a breezy read and, like you said, some interesting tidbits. I'm not sure it was a book that "needed" to be written, though. As seasons go, the 2005 Mets were interesting enough to follow as a fan, but I don't think it really merited a book.

I concur with Yancy's review. I enjoyed it well enough, but 2005 wasn't a season that was screaming to be written about.

That said, I'm starting Believeniks! next....

This book is just OK, nothing mind blowing, not that I was expecting that,around page 99/100 he goes on about Beltran visiting a church in Houston with Anderson, but who is that, Marlon Anderson?

i figure we already knew most of the anecdotes in the book, being hardcore fans and all.

but i was glad to see that pedro made reference to my favorite subway commercial in the book:

"you gonna finish that?"

i havent seen that commercial in a long time, but i still recite the lines to myself regularly.

"its alot of meat!"

If they really traded Kazmir because he liked to light a doob every now and then, my head might blow up.
At least they got a few good years out of Gooden, and he spent his whole life in a snowblind.
At worst, Kazmir would've lost his entire bone mass or became an accordian person like on those annoying TV PSAs.

This one is much better, so far it's mostly about Pedro, whom I adore, so I think I will like this one.

Thank god I decided to read it after starting (and stopping) that other piece of crap.

doing a common paperback thing and adding onto the original with a new chapter or three on whatever updates that have occured since the hardcover's publication.
