Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 So IMO, we've got a surplus of starting pitching and could afford to trade one of our guys. Personally, I think it should be one of Benson, Zambrano or Trachsel. Assuming we wanted to upgrade our rotation, there are a number of tasty names out there. I'm only posting guys I think could be better than any one of the above three.Vazquez (via trade)AJ Burnett (expensive, injury risk, but probably best on the market)Matt Morris (meh. 32 next year, with declining K numbers. Still pretty good, though). Kevin Millwood (coming off a great year, but inconsistent. Will cost a lot.)Jeff Weaver (youngish head case with upside)Paul Byrd (35 with injury concerns, but pretty good when healthy).
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 My hunch is that the Benson for Vazquez deal is going to happen. (It would be much better than the Baltimore deal for Jorge Julio.)
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 The Mets could use a solid #2 starter, but I'm not certain any of the above fit. Javy is coming off two down years, and Burnett has never had the kind of season that would justify the salary he's likely to get. Barry Zito maybe -- it might not be a coincidence that his numbers slipped when Peterson came here -- but tell me what the asking price is first.
