D-Dad and I saw this one last night. It's the story of how Truman Capote befriended a young murderer and used the information gained from that friendship in order to write his famous book, In Cold Blood. Phillip Seymour Hoffman stars in the title role. He is a total chameleon - you may not recognize his name, but you've probably seen him in a dozen different roles. He's an actor who blends into the part so well that you can forget he's acting.

In Capote, Hoffman has the physical imitation down pat, and his portrayal of this self-centered, talented, and perhaps even sociopathic writer is subtle and intensely powerful. Oscar winner Catherine Keener is also a standout as writer Nelle Harper Lee ( To Kill a Mockingbird ).

The film is a slow-paced biographical and psychological study. The acting is fabulous.

I liked this a lot more than I thought I would (I am on record somewhere as being against biopics). Hoffman was fabulous, as usual. He might be the best American actor out there.
