They're definitely taking their time with Cairo's leg.

Wow, it's like the first "sucks" on the new board.

I think it's been lost in his so-far legendary pinch-hitting, but he's a 2B by trade. If Matsui needs a day off and Cairo's not ready, he's probably the best fit. I know he's not a Gold Glover, but he'll be okay for one game. Maybe Matsui plays Game 2.

A two out single, with the runner stranded at first. And efficient first inning from Ishii.

Never thought I'd see those two words ("efficient" and "Ishii") in the same sentence -- other than the sentence "Ishii could never be called an efficient pitcher" -- but it's apropos of something here. Nice work through the top of the order.

Yes, Matsui in the night cap. Piazza sits and Floyd goes too ... I'm like, no
duh Seaver/O'Brien.

Does "suxx" count?

Reyes should have been called safe.

But he should have been called out yesterday on the bunt.

Cameron singles, and steals second.

Cameron really has been lights-out since he got back from the DL. It's almost too good; I feel like I'm waiting for the bubble to burst.

Beltran grounds out. Cameron moves over to third. Two out.

Cammie singles and steals.

I like that Joe Niekro has a hitting son.

Stereotype suggests that pitchers aren't athletic enough to produce hitting sons; and knuckleballers aren't athletic enough at all. Like they're faking their way through.

Reality suggests that both Phil and Joe were good hitters and fielders.

Mikey strikes out, stranding Cameron on third.

Mr. Efficiency with a dunker single to left scores Wright and the Metsies are up 1-0 after 2.

Seems like the Mets have been getting a lot of good hitting from their pitchers this season.

An error by Mr. Wright leads to the Giants tying the game in the third.

The scores were announced by the Giant play-by-play man and the color guy Mike Krukow assumed a goofy voice and yelled, "THEEEEE Yankees lost!"

Wow! Ellison misses the suicide squeeze sign and swings.

That's the sort of screw up than can get Torrealba kilt. And I imagine Torrealba is going to remind him of that.

Nice to see Yankee-hating transcends all state borders.

Ishii is 2-2 with a pair of singles; Reyes pops up to second and there's two out.

ishii being 2-2 (and the only RBI thus far) today raises his average to 385.

Fascinating Ishii tidbit, courtesy of Dave O'Brien: Apparently, Ishii has a Charles Barkley-like media presence in Japan; he has a "zany" personality that we don't often see here, but I guess he's very funny. O'Brien also says that he'll apologize after interviews if he wasn't "witty enough."

Go figure.

Ishii has thrown 50 strikes in 69 pitches, meaning that his biggest critic will not be very critical today.

Edgy, now you've gone and done it.
The name (of the SF announcer) you just mentioned is one of the most virulent Met jinxes in history.
When he was pitching against our team, he had a smirk on his face, knowing that we could never beat him. Even when the Mets got some runs off him, his team would score more to take him off the hook, or give him an undeserved win.
The very mention of his name meant a Met loss.
Now you've done it.
You not only mentioned his name, but on a day that the Mets were playing a double header.

I'm hoping against hope the curse has run its course. But if it hasn't, we will all know who to blame.

EDIT: corrected some typos.

Hard Giant hitting and sloppy Met defense give a four-run lead to San Francisco.

Krukow career vs. Mets:

22-7, 3.69 in 44 games (39 starts, including 5 shutouts)

Ugly.

The Mets don't look good in Game 1; and you hate to see that in a doubleheader.

Lance Niekro hits one about 5000 feet into the seats in left, and he leaves down 6-1 in the 7th. In comes Heath Bell.
