First things first. I asked him for a headshot in a Mets hat, and if there was any significance to him wearing 29.

You've got to look after your peeps.

Excellent. Now let's get Steve Henderson, Steve Dillon, Steve Trachsel, and Steve Phillips to join Steve Beiser and Steve Zabriskie in an All-Steve Q&A.

The Beeze is not getting back to me in a prompt manner.

Before we introduce our next Rico, see if you can tell me which Mets holds the sad distinction of getting shut out in his first four big-league starts.

Prentice Redman, we hardly knew ya'.

He was signed to a minor league deal with the Cards.

Well, it's getting to the point like there's some sort of implicit agreement that all Edgy quizzes suck, therefore none shall participate.

The answer is Jim McAndrew, of Lost Nation, Iowa.

Crap. I was just about to guess Jim McAndrew.

I wouldn't have accepted that answer without "of Lost Nation, Iowa."

Hershiser moves into Rangers front office

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Orel Hershiser resigned as pitching coach of the Texas Rangers on Friday to become the team's executive director.

The move appeared to end Hershiser's rumored candidacy for the Los Angeles Dodgers' vacant managerial spot.

Hershiser moves into the front office almost a month after Dodgers general manager Paul DePodesta said the Rangers granted him permission to speak with the former Dodgers pitcher about replacing Jim Tracy.

The 47-year-old Hershiser joined the Rangers before the 2002 season as a special assistant to former general manager John Hart. He became the team's pitching coach in 2003 when Buck Showalter became manager.

"When I became the pitching coach of the Rangers three years ago, I knew I was not going to be in that position for the long term," Hershiser said in a statement. "It is time for me to move onto different things in my life and (Rangers owner) Tom Hicks has provided me an opportunity to stay in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and with the Rangers."

Mark Connor, who served the last three seasons as bullpen coach of the Rangers, becomes the team's pitching coach. Dom Chiti, formerly the club's director of player personnel, will replace Connor.

The team also announced that Bobby Jones will return for his second stint as first base and outfield coach. Jones held the same spot in 2000 and '01 under former Rangers managers Johnny Oates and Jerry Narron.

Jones was previously manager for the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma.

If you recall a prior post, John Olerud Senior was going to play in the old fart World Series.
Here's part of on email from him to my friend(11/14) at the Roy Hobbs WS in FL:
***************************
We won the opener (Sunday) 10-0 against a team from Rochester NY, I was 1-2 with 3 RBIs, a run scored and 2 assists on defense. Today (Monday) we beat a team from Akron OH, 12-5. I was 4-5 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. So far the body is holding up remarkably well for all the time I have been on base.

**************************************************

And, just found out today that John Sr.'s team won the whole thing.
Them Oleruds sure can hit.

Maybe they both submitted their posts at the same time, and Edgy's took 15 hours to process.

Me, I'm just wondering what Scott Strickland is up to these days. Anyone hear anything?

Actually, shit, that's close. I had other news in there, but I broke it off and put in another thread. Didn't realize I submitted that at all.

Sorry.

Relations Kwiz: Basketballer Antoine Walker is related to which former Met?

Guest Edgy DC

I'm sorry, nobody buzzed in on time. Antoine is the nephew of former Met Chico Walker.

Meanwhile, Mo Vaughn is getting involved in urban renewal.

I was gonna say that, but it seemed too obvious-- I was looking at the Chicago connection, since 'toine was born and raised in the Windy City.

nothing to report today except news on former minor-leaguers.

B-Met Russ Triplett packs it in and returns to his alma mater.

OK, get real. Well, fine, I will. Keith Hernandez has his very own curse named after him. Awesome.

Meanwhile, the Mets have gone almost as long as the Cardinals without a World Championship. Who's the source of their curse? Ray Knight?

Kevin Mitchell or Ed Hearn.
