On the Braves site the picture is of him as a Dodger!

He spent a season and a half more as a Met BTW

Maybe he'll give John Smoltz a hot foot next season.

I'd have the umpires check the condition of the balls very carefully.
Remember Roger's tool belt?

Scott Podsednik was credited with eight at-bats in the 14-inning victory over the Astros in Game 3, the most ever in a Series game, breaking the record of 7 held by Don Hahn of the Mets in Game 2 of the 1973 Series against the A's in Oakland.

I remember that Roger ran Gregg Jefferies out of town.

Uh, how can that be possible when Roger was traded in 89? Should be the other way around

Well, an exaggeration. Roger was a leader of the hate-Jefferies faction in the Mets clubhouse.

I never pictured Roger as a coach. Now he's replacing one of the better pitching coaches. Interesting.

So was Randy Myers, if I remember correctly.

Who Jefferies also seriously outlived.

I hated Gregg Jefferies too. Because of him I tried swinging my bat in a pool and I still sucked.

And my bat got rusty.

That's what you get for using a metal bat. (Aluminum rusts?)

When I was a kid, Roger McDowell appeared at our Little League Awards Night (back when you could book a major leaguer for 500 bucks). His wife Karen was so pretty that she signed as many autographs as he did. But, alas, I hear that they are divorced now.

I spoke with Mrs. McDowell and Mrs. Whitey Ford when they were guests on the Ann Liguori radio show on WFAN. (On her show, you could speak with the in-studio guests)
I asked Mrs. Ford whether she could recommend any tools (for doctoring the ball like the ones like Whitey used to use) for Roger's tool belt.
They all got a kick out of my comments.

Remember... Stu Sternberg and the rest of my dad's friends in the D-Rays ownership group are from New Jersey. And I know of at least one of them that's a Mets fan. So it wouldn't surprise me if he ended up in Tampa Bay.

Bobby Valentine wins the prestigious Shoriki Award.

Larry Bowa has officially signed on as Yankee third base coach.

Jerry DiPoto has been named the director of professional scouting by the Diamondbacks. (Fourth story.)

Tsuyoshi Shinjo has re-signed with the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters for 220 million yen.

And how many dollars is 220 million yen....I hate math...1 yen = 0.01 $...not a lot really..

It'll be interesting to see if Bowa can control his famous temper now that he's a Yankee. Or do you think they hired him to be a "hired gun" because of some radio fandroid comments this year about how Torre didn't demonstrate any fire?

DISCLAIMER: I'm not suggesting that baseball executives make hiring decisions based on fan calls to sportstalk stations.

Hiring Bowa was reportedly Torre's initiative.

And I just heard that the Yanks came to terms with Maz for another coaching position with the team.

I think this will go down as the longest thread one day. (I don't count Apropos of nothing as a thread since, by definition, there is no actual common theme throughout it.)
