Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2025 Posted May 6, 2025 I tried following Yanx/Padres before our game Monday night but they kept going into rain delays (at least two) and when I did catch some it was already 3-0 YanxSo it was fun to learn from Gary in the midst of our game that they later lost after coughing up four in the 8th to the Swinging Friars. The main culprit was Devin Williams ("Pete's old friend" as Gary called him last night) the former Brewers closer dealt to the Yanx in the off season. He lit the fuse in the 8th: K, BB, 1B, K, BB ... and then new closer Luke Weaver set it off: 2RBI-2B, 2-RBI 1B, BB, GOThe season in da Bronx for the now former closer Williams has been a disaster so far: 14 G, 11.2 IP, 15 RA (13 ER), on 13 hits, 13 K, 10 BB (plus 1 HBP & 1 WP)That all adds up to a 10.03 ERA and 1.97 WHIP vs career marks of 1.83 / 1.02 over his first six seasons for the 30 y/o who can be a FA after this season. It's starting to look like Pete's HR off of him in Game 3 of that playoff series radically reordered the fortunes of both parties.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2025 Author Posted May 6, 2025 Yanx returned the favor on the Pads tonight. After giving up a run in top-7 to break a 2-2 tie, the Yanx hung up a 10-spot in the bottom half and wound up with a 12-3 win.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2025 Author Posted May 7, 2025 Braves lose today (Reds); Phils win (Rays); Nats lose (Guardians); Marlins lose (Dodgers)Yanx tied 3-3 headed to the 10th with the Pads ... and the fuckin' Pads leave the bases loaded in top 10th without scoring.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2025 Author Posted May 8, 2025 Derek Shelton is out as manager of the 12 - 26 Pirates following two (comparatively) good 76 - 86 seasons in '23 & '24. 306 - 440 since starting the Covid 2020 season. Yeah, I'm sure it was his fault.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2025 Author Posted May 11, 2025 The Rockies won today (vs Padres), their seventh win of the season and broke an eight game losing streak..But even against that backdrop this has been a pretty brutal week at the Rock Pile.Over the previous six games their staff allowed 72 runs! while COL bats combined for 21That's an average of 12 RA/G for you non-math dudes.Sun 5/4 in SF: 3 - 9At home vs DETWed: 6 - 8 in 10 inningsThu (G1): 2 - 10Thu (G2): 1 - 11Home vs SDPFri: 9 - 13Sat: 0 - 21 Today: Rox 9 - Pads 3Now 7 - 33 and on pace for a 28 - 134 season
Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2025 Posted May 11, 2025 Rockies then fired Bud Black, the team's manager for nine years. I don't think this was Bud's fault.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2025 Author Posted May 11, 2025 That's two NL managers in one week.Pitt interim Don Kelly celebrated his ascendancy by getting ejected from his 2nd game earlier this week. Frustration obviously builds quickly by the rivers x 3.btw, because he's been dubbed an 'interim' mgr, BB-Ref is still tallying Pitt's Ws & Ls to ex-skipper Derek Shelton. All sports seem to do that, not just baseball (there was the one year Steve Kerr had health issues and Luke Walton coached nearly a full season but with no stats to show that) but I don't understand the philosophy behind it.Speaking of the Pirates (as we will certainly be doing a lot of over the next three days) 'twas nice of them to take two of three and slow down the Braves this weekend. All were low scoring games (even without Skenes pitching any of them): 3-2 Braves on Fri, then 3-2 Pirates yesterday and 4-3 Pirates this afternoon.
