bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 So two days off. The good news, for me, is that instead of seeing Wilmer Font on Tuesday at Nationals Park I'll see Syndergaard.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Single admission double header! I though those were extinct!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 There were a couple of the makeup variety last year. What's extinct is the scheduled single-admission twi-night doubleheader.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 That's a shame. I used to love those!Doubleheaders are one of the things that separate baseball away from the rest of the sports. Any other sport have teams play two games in a day?
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Before the NBA became truly big time, the old Garden would host doubleheaders, with two out-of-town teams composing half of the bill. But baseball seems to be alone in presenting what we think of as doubleheaders.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 Braves @ Cleveland, Sat April 20Game 1 = 3:04, Game 2 = 3:54That's what killed the double-header!OK, so it wasn't the only thing, but it's certainly a factor.DH's existed in the old days for two basic reasons: - to give extra off-days in the days of slower travel- to increase attendance by giving fans the equivalent of a two-fer-one deal. The first of those conditions no longer applies, and, given the length of game times (7 hours as in the example above plus whatever between-game time is involved), and the second would probably be considered a disincentive to a lot of folks now.
