Dude, I made it to the bigs last year. And while it was mostly middlin' as far as performance, it wasn't without a highlight or two. I stuck around long enough to get 32 innings in, and I struck out twice as many as I walked. I mean, I came up from AA, man. And I there I was, part of a big league bullpen. I came up in late June and I stuck. The fuck. Around.



I didn't embarrass myself. I mean, often this offseason, I found cause to say to myself, "Self (heh, heh), you didn't embarrass yourself."



So, there I was, part of the squad, giving nobody cause to send me back down. But then they went and recruited over my head, and this offseason, I went from being, like, fifth or sixth on the relief depth chart to, like, 11th. It's a nasty business, but it's the one I signed up for. Competition comes and it's my job to come out on top.



I hope to prove myself and come back, though. And you know why? Yeah, to get filthy dirty rich, sure. But also to get a taste of victory. THAT would be nice. Not only did I go 0-3 last season, but I didn't even get to appear in wins. Seriously. You know how the Mets kind of played respectably down the stretch after an awful summer? Yeah, that didn't happen with me. The Mets were https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.fcgi?id=bashlty01&t=p&year=20184-20 in games I appeared in. That's hard to do when you didn't embarrass yourself. And I totally didn't! And they had to rally to get there! At one point, they were 1-17 in games I appeared in. That's 1962 territory! And, may I remind you a third time, I didn't suck!



Listen I'm only asking you to believe in me a little here. I got my Tommy John surgery out of the way in the minors, and while I'm not trying to say that's the way deGrom did it, that's the way deGrom did it.

He won't head to Queens right away, but injuries will happen and he'll get his chances. I'll give him a 3.87 ERA in 35 IP.
