EXPECTATIONS FOR 18: Fernando Abad

Know what's worse than waiting until February 17 to get a big league deal? Waiting until February 17 and settling for an offer from the Phillies.

Know what's even worse? Getting cut by the Phillies. Dumped. Tossed on the scrap heap. Right next to Antonio Bastardo, as a matter of fact.

But I'm landing on my feet. I'm a Met now. Or a 51. Or a Rumble Pony, whatever that is. Just as long as I'm no Iron Pig. I have my dignity. The Mets looked at me, looked at Bastardo, were all "Been there, done that," and threw me a bone.

I like this signing, especially because my Expectations for Eighteen on Jerry Blevins aren't so rosy.

I'll bet this fella gets in about 40 games this year, throws about 44 innings, is tough on lefties, and collects his first hit in eight years.
