I am the prospect. The next in line. Yeah, you got your d'Arnies and your Weckies and that's all good. I'm glad you have them. But they better gain some traction, because I'm right behind. And Mazeika's right behind me.

Catching sucks. I'll be honest. Trying to stick as a big league hitter while memorizing 12-13 members of your staff and their repertoire and knowing the hitters around the league and how to get them out and taping information to your forearms and squatting 200+ times a game and blocking shit in the dirt and figuring out that rule about protecting the plate while not really protecting the plate. It's all bullshit. But I do it for you. Every year, every game, I do it for you.

How will I do it all in 2018? Because it's important to know.

Friend of mine who flew up to Toronto this morning to be part of The 7 Line Army jamboree at Rogers Centre came across another person carrying luggage festooned with Mets logos. An attempt to commiserate with him was met with silence. Moments later, thanks to that person meeting up with a driver holding a sign reading NIDO, he realized he was telling New York Mets backup catcher Tomas Nido (presumably called up in reaction to Mesoraco's melon getting whacked with a bat) how much his team sucked.

Probably wasn't expecting that!

Once my friend was clued in as to who he had just interacted, he apologized for speaking the truth. Nido smiled politely and was on his way.
