The new NBA dunk champion had to beat Larry Nance, Jr., the son of the original champion, Leapin' Larry Nance (1984). But Donovan Mitchell has pedigree of his own, being the son of Mets Director of Player Relations Donovan Mitchell, Sr.

Before ascending to his current role, Donovan, Sr. (of Valhalla, NY) managed three seasons in the Minaya-era Mets minors, skippering future Mets such as Daniel Murphy, Josh Thole, Wilmer Flores, and Juan Lagares.

I couldn't find any active "Mets Beat" threads, but I found it interesting that Mitchell, Sr. was the Mets ringer on the diamond as they beat the press corps handily.
