  1. HHmmmm...just looked up Franco on that site that benjamin grimm mentioned in the Alphabet thread I started--they have all sorts of memories of Franco there, I hoped maybe someone would mention him being related to Piggy. WOW--is there a lot of hate for Franco over there! People really ragged on him for years and years and years. I wonder if players ever read that site. Some people seemed to make it their life's work to say terrible things about Franco.
  2. =seawolf17 post_id=66652 time=1622747569 user_id=91] My first thought was that Piggy is really responsive through-the-mail autograph signer so you could ask him that way, but it looks like he hasn't signed in a while, so his age might be catching up to him.

First conceived of back in 2018, y'know what keeps you from using the line on June 3rd? Having a near fatal heart attack on June 2nd, that's what! So you hold onto it until 2019 but the Mets were off that day. No worries, I'll just use it in 2020 ... until a fuckin global pandemic knocks out baseball for not just 6/3 but the entire month of June. It's a long time to hold on to an extremely mediocre reference, I know, but the longer it took the more determined I was to finally get a chance to cash it in. Totally clueless, here. I'd like to buy a vowel. There was a song, grasshopper, known only to old, old people...

But you can't argue with Wikipedia. OK, you can argue with Wikipedia. Do you suppose Pete or Johnny has a website where the question can be posed directly? I doubt Piggy has one (he's still alive, at age 93.)
  5. So I was looking up original Met (or at least 1962 Met) Joe Pignatano the other day (don't ask) and came across the odd information here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Pignatanohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Pignatano that he's a cousin of both Pete Falcone and John Franco. Does this mean that Franco and Falcone are perhaps distant cousins? I know they're not necessarily related, but are they?
  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Reed and Griffiths. http://leaptoad.com/mets/roster.phphttp://leaptoad.com/mets/roster.php Forgot about both of them, if I ever knew them. Pretty unsubstantial. That's some useful database you linked to, though. Pick one of them as more important in Met history, and I think we're done here.
  7. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The Mets have had three Jeremies and a Jeromy. You can take you choice of them. You'll have to remind who the other two are. All I can remember is Hefner (who I'm using for EFF) and Burnitz, who spells it funny.
  8. Edgy MD wrote: For T, you can use RusT Staub. I'm very curious to see how you ultimately monetize this project. There's a market for this sort of nonsense? Do tell. (And I don't mean Octavio.) Also I think most of the proceeds should go to Dinosaur Jesus. Two-thirds of the heavy lifting was done by the guy who thought of the one letter I deemed "impossible" to get at the outset.

"Hafner" was actually spelled "Hefner" which (with a slight Cockney accent) gives us our "F"--so now we need either another "EM" name or another "EFF" name (and I'll switch Jeremy back to EM.) Who was that big galoot we sent back and forth to Milwaukee--Burnitz? Was his first name Jeremy too? Or did he spell it funny?

  12. Which game in this series is Jake pitching? Friday? I'm preparing something but I need one more start out of him.
  13. dinosaur jesus wrote: W =probably impossible Ray Daviault? This is actually brilliant, in its way. I mean you've got to twist up your mouth and pronounce it a little funny, and also to hold your head just so when you're listening, but if you do "Daviault" DOES sound like 'dubbayew'--probably as close as we will ever get. I like it. So: A= Tommie Agee B= HuBIE Brooks C= SEAver D = DE Aza E= WillIE Mays F = G = Dillon GEE H = Adeiny HECHavarria. Herzog Z =MaZZEIka I actually like Whitey Herzog for "T" if we can find a better "Y"--we've almost filled out the alphabet, thanks to Dinosaur Jesus. Just a few more spots to fill, some of them fairly easy. Hmm-actually. thought of a perfectly good "T"--Felix ManTIlla. And I'd like to keep this a list of actual Mets players, so I'm going to go with the oddly-syllabled Wally WHY-terst until someone can come up with a better Y/
  14. Edgy MD wrote: OK, then Y - YT Herzog. never a Met, though, was he? Maybe Wally WHYtehurst?
  15. Lefty Specialist wrote: Like the Mets, YouTube was a bit glitchy. Want to know what this team is made of? 7 games in 10 days against the Padres might tell you. That's what building up a lead is good for. Even a tough series against a good team (and someone on yesterday's broadcast said he thought the Pods were the best team in the NL) probably leaves the Mets in first place. This is like playing with house money--I suspect they're loose and could give the Pods a hard time. The D'backs looked pretty awful in the field, didn't they? I think we can expect the Padres not to be handing out runs like that for free. I once told my kids they were called "Error-zona" for that reason.
  16. Was "EX-avier" a mispronunciation or how Nady actually pronounced his name? Usually, I think "Zavier" is how it's pronounced. It's sort of like counting "Texiera" as having an "EX" sound in it because some people mispronounced it "Tex-i-e-ra"
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Y - DYt Gooden Only if "Dwight" is a three-syllable word.

  19. Nah, I keep pausing it. I just watched Villar's double three times.
  20. Did they just say it's 4-4, so they're close to beating the over/under of 8.5 runs? What do they think is going to happen, a tie? And a 5th run promptly comes in.
  21. Youtube is a big improvement on not getting the game at all. Little tough to navigate, pause, etc. but maybe that's just me.

  23. Sorry, which syllables for the phonetic sound of letters are these? You're not suggesting that Maddox is pronounced Madd-EX, are you? I don't get Hefner either. I mean, it's sort of pronounced like Madd-EX, but the vowel sound is wrong. So is the last syllable in FelIX Millan's first name too. Slightly off. We never had a guy named Exley, have we?
  24. I realized that I got started on this because of the Villar = V. R. thread. So far, the alphabet looks like A= B= BEane C= SEAver D = DE Aza E= WillIE Mays F = G = Dillon GEE H = I = J = JAY Bruce K = McKAY Christensen L = M = N = ENdy Chavez O = ConfortO P = PIazza Q = R = VillAR S = T = U = Floyd YOUmans V = W =probably impossible X = Y = Z =
