  1. From an SNY rave about Carlos Mendoza's early performance in Mets camp. [bLOCKQUOTE]As a first-year manager, he will naturally make in-game mistakes, especially as he gets used to running a pitching staff and bullpen at the big league level. But as one Mets lifer put it last week after spending a few hours with Mendoza, "He has a [unprintable anatomical reference; use your imagination] to be great." The early reviews are very strong.[/bLOCKQUOTE] He has a ... butthole ... to be great? He has a ballsack to be great? I've got nothing.
  2. Sandy seems to have drained the pool, creating a summat disappointing visit for fellow New Yorkers Chris Stein, Jimmy Destri, Debby Harry, Gary Valentine (with a dodgy hairstyle), and Clem Burke. I think those must be Gary's sunglasses that Debby is sitting on.
  3. Transactions, 2/28/2024 [th]Direction[/th][td90]GOING[/td90][th]Transaction [/th][td90]Signed away by SDP to Minor-League Contract[/td90][th]Position Group [/th][th]=#FFC2C2] Outfielder[/th][th][/th][td90][fimg=90]https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-photos/image/upload/d_people:generic:headshot:67:current.png/w_213,q_auto:best/v1/people/641796/headshot/67/current[/fimg][/td90][th]Name [/th][td90]Tim Locastro [fimg=50]https://thecranepool.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/US-flag.png[/fimg][/td90][th]DoB[/th][td90]1992-07-14[/td90][th]B/T[/th][td90]R/R[/td90][th]High Level[/th][td90]MLB (2023)[/td90] This more or less puts a cap on the 2023 and the slings and arrows that came with it. With Daniel Vogebach off to the Pacific Northwest, we're left with an oft-injured (and retirement-talkin') Sam Coonrod as our last vestige of the unsigned Mets from last season.
  4. All you Coonrod voters can count yourself as winners. But since there were no Coonrod voters, the prize money gets doubled over into next week's prediction contest, or something. Coony, meanwhile is https://wlds.com/audio/sam-coonrod-retirement-talk-sos-2-24/leaning toward retirement.
  5. Outhit the Astros in total, but waited too long to make their move, they did.
  6. It is not, sadly. Scoreless we are in the bottom of the second. G-Man Choi has a double, continuing to rake and rake some more, almost keeping up with Alonso's torrid spring pace.
  7. The wrist cast can probably help us date the photo. Here's Joan at The Tropicana, with special guest John Wayne! [FIMG=700]https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/databasela-d8afb.appspot.com/o/uploads%2Fbrad%2Fimages%2F210413%2F_1600_DBLA-u1p2x1.jpg?alt=media[/FIMG]
  8. Eddie Murray, Tom Glavine, Nolan Ryan, Warren Spahn, Yogi Berra, Richie Ashburn, Casey Stengel, Gil Hodges, Joe Torre, Duke Snider and Mike Piazza are all correct. Well done! Snider is the one I think of the least as being a Met, yet he played pretty much a full season with them. We we speak of being "elected" to the Hall of Fame, we tend to be referring to players who came through the BBWAA. At least, that's the distinction Bill James makes, and he refers to the likes of Richie Ashburn, Casey Stengel, Gil Hodges, and Joe Torre as "selected."
  9. Tyrone Taylor tries to keep his .500 batting average going as part of the Mets patented two-Taylor outfield, DJ Stewart continues to bounce between cleanup and leadoff, and while Jett Williams isn't in the starting lineup, he hopes to glean some of José Altuve's hidden truths of making it in MLB as an undersized infielder. All this and MORE going down today at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches, which is just a disturbingly confusing name for a Spring Training ballpark. Or anyplace, really. Is there an oldtimey secondbaseman name Cliff Keystone or a thirdbaseman name Tommy Trecero or something?
  10. Not yet, anyhow. Here's a hinticle: His Mets debut came in 2023.
  11. We have an early evening 6:05 start for this one as the Mets head to Park of the Palm Beaches to take on the Astros. José Quintana makes hiss 2024 spring debut as the Mets try to extend their best-in-baseball four-game winning streak and catch the Orioles, a half game ahead in the Grapefruit League rankings. 12. The smaller lettering is getting the attention, but it seems like an ancillary issue to the broad replacement of the great baseball tradition of embroidery and patchwork with decalling. The former is an issue of tacky-but-passing style. The latter is a sea change involving the character of the game.
  13. Bad guess, in that he is a lefthanded reliever. Nu page, so let us repeat the challenging question. When Daniel signed with The Nationals, The Mets were granted a compensation pick in the following amateur draft. Who did they take with that pick?
  14. That was a good game. Seemed like he had a minor injury but then disappeared for a long time.
  15. Good guess, in that he is a lefthanded reliever, but he's five years older than Nate.
  16. Important Daniel Murphy Trivia: When Daniel signed with The Nationals, The Mets were granted a compensation pick in the following amateur draft. Who did they take with that pick?
  17. This makes me pissier the more I think about it. Break up MLB.
  18. [media=youtube]nnOtjW9K0CA[/media]
  19. 5. Eddie Murray, Tom Glavine, Nolan Ryan, Warren Spahn, [CROSSOUT]Duke Snider[/CROSSOUT] Yogi Berra. That may be (4) also. I'm not sure.
  20. The last two pitchers were Joshua Cornielly, who pitched for Brookly last season, and https://metsmerizedonline.com/developing-the-right-breaking-balls-a-wilkin-ramos-deep-dive/Wilkin Ramos, who came over from Pittsburgh in the 2022 Rule V Draft and split 2023 between Brooklyn and Bingo, pitching very effectively.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: The Royals, of all teams, didn't like the new name-on-back lettering, asked if they could keep their old look, and were told, "Sure, whatever." Seems like I made a bad assumption there, as the article suggests the Royals had to "lobby hard" for the exemption.
  22. Murph is more comfortable. Wilkin Ramos finishes it off with a strikeout, and the Mets wrap up a 3-0 shutout for their fourth straight win. Baltimore up 8-1 over Minnesota, so we might have to wait until tomorrow for the Mets to seize first place among Sunshine Staters. Thank you for watching. Please safe drively.
  23. A two-out rally is all about the wheels on Bannon, Ramirez, and Williams. A third run is on the board and the Mets are still batting. Confusing St. Louis defense includes a #95 playing both second and third.
  24. Je✈️✈️ Williams on for Lindor at shortstop. Zach Short making a Brooks Robinson backhand play down the line at third, turning a dubble into a 5-3 out.
  25. Mental Note for the Season: This guy Santos on the mound for St. Louis has the most comically helpless move to first I can imagine.
