1. Michelle Margaux chatting up Edgardo Alfonzo, in the dugout and rocking a Mets uniform as God intended.
2. Q gives up a leadoff single but settles down and gets the next three. He's going to win 25 this season.
3. Here's to allowing teams to contract out the supplying of their own gear.
4. Get some McNeil action in there, and that might be our Opening Day alignment.
5. MLB is up to something new this spring, adding a mini-schedule of 16 exhibitions over a four-day span to highlight top prospects from each team's system. Because MLB is all about MLB, the rosters will be largely composed of each team's top 30 prospects according to MLB pipeline. They will be grouped as a unit, regardless of level, much like the MLB All-Star Futures Game: The Mets just announced roster is to include the fellers below, with their highest-level achieved and their MLB Pipeline ranking following their beautiful names:

[TH]Farting Pitchers[/TH][TH]Relief Pitchers[/TH][TH]Catchers[/TH][TH]Infielders[/TH][TH]Outfielders[/TH][TH]Two-Way Infielder/ Reliever Mutant Hybrids[/TH]

Dominic Hamel (R), AA, #14 Brandon Sproat (R), Division I, #13 Tyler Stuart (R), AA, #18 Calvin Ziegler (R), A, #22 Blade Tidwell (R), AA, #10Paul Gervase (R), AA, NR Daniel Juarez (L), AA, NR Wilkin Ramos (R), AA, NR Ben Simon (R), A, NRRonald Hernandez (S), A, #20 Kevin Parada (R), AA, #9 Vincent Perozo (L), A, NRLuisangel Acuña (R), AA, #3 Jesus Baez (R), Rk, #21 Colin Houck (R), Rk, #7 William Lugo (R), A+, NR Jacob Reimer (R), A+, #15 Jeremy Rodriguez (L), DSL, #12 Junior Tilien (R), A+, NR Marco Vargas (L), A, #8 Jett Williams (R), AA, #1Drew Gilbert (L), AA, #2 Alex Ramírez (R), A+, #16 Rhylan Thomas (L), AA, #30 Nick Morabito (R), A, #26 Ryan Clifford (L), A+, #24Nolan McLean (R/R), A, #19

As it looks like this squad will play only one game as a group, the distinction between starter and reliever will likely be irrelevant to any but those as hopelessly pedantic like myself. That game is scheduled for March 15 (hosting the Washington Hopefuls) at 3:10 p.m. ET, broadcast by SNY from Clover Park in Port St. Lucie. For those in Florida, it's part of a single-admission doubleheader, with the biggish-leaguish version of the Mets major league team playing at 6:10 p.m. Get there early, as the spring doubleheader rules appear to suggest that this will only be a seven-inning affair. Another interesting rule in place will be the option for robotic home plate umpire review, meaning that a manager can challenge a ball/strike call up to three times during a game, losing the challenge if the robo-ump judges him to be incorrect, and retaining it if his challenge is vindicated. There will also be no three-batter minima for pitchers, because whatever. I'm guessing that guys at the top of the system who still have a chance of making the big-league squad, like Christian Scott, are less likely to be included. https://www.coolmathgames.com/sites/default/files/styles/blog_node_image/public/2022-11/Retro%20Game%20Atari%20Breakout%20Blog%20Thumbnail.png?itok=lmDmvPKx>
6. The grapefruit grudge matches continue following yesterday's rainout against the Astronomers, as the Mets host their Nationalist division rivals for an early evening clash in the alleys and backstreets of Port St. Lucie. José Quintana missed his start yesterday, but a rotation staple like himself is too important to bypass, so he gets the call. Washington counters with 6'6" righthander Jake Irvin, currently trying to lock down the team's #5 rotation slot after getting hit hard against the Astros the last time out. Reports from yesterday have the Lerner family agreeing to a split contract with Eddie Rosario, reserve outfielder from hittin'-rich '21-'23 Braves. A tough market when a guy with his track record has to wait until March 6 for a split contract, but he seems to still have the stink of a lousy 2022 season. A lot of that has been subsequently be attributed to undiagnosed eye issues. Fun Eddie Rosario Fact: The dude's, like, the anti-Mark Cahna, having been hit by only four pitches in 4,023 plate appearance. TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM, EDDIE!
7. Yoshinobu Yamamoto got hit hard for the Dodgers today. Carlos Rodón also kind of laid an egg for the Yankees. The Braves had the day off, but I'm close to calling the day a win.
8. Well, that makes more sense as Tommie Agee was a more prolific striker-outer than Donn Clendenon.
9. Number four is Donn Clendenon and Davve Kingman with 156 strikeouts.
10. Curses on you, Astroland!
11. It's two lefthanders engaged in mortal combat as the Mets head out to CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches ... again, to take on the Astros ... again. Possible Mets opening day starter José Quintana has a bloated ERA of 10.80, a gift he received while facing the Astros last time out. And that's ... OK ... because Houston starter Framber Valdez is rocking a 20.25 ERA. The Mets continue to run Brett Baty and Mark Vientos out there every day, but the main guy to make the trip to Astroland is the always-down-for-anything Francisco Lindor. 13. All respect to Disney, but I imagine that Vegas is the forced perspective capital of the world.
14. You can't meet the threshold until you meet the mesh-hold, amirite?
15. If there's anythin' more ridiculous than proposed stadium mockups, it just might be mockups of proposed stadiums in Las Vegas. And the A's do not disappoint!! We had José Gomez ranked dead last among 76 starting pitchers in the Mets employ. Brawny Reyes didn't have it so bad. He was merely 99th out of 102 relievers.
17. So, if Verlander doesn't hit the vesting threshold, but the Astros pick up the option voluntarily, are the Mets on the hook or off?
18. The Yankees' third pitcher was Harrison Cohen, who came on for Yerry De Los Santos and allowed his two inherited runners to score. Cohen isn't on the roster and isn't officially in camp, having only thrown 3 1/3 innings above High-A, but with the team scheduled cross-state travel, was one of the minor leaguers who got floated up to be with the team for a day. Non-baseball-dedicated outlets often get flummoxed in Spring Training when such an animal appears in a game. I think he got the error in failing to catch the ball while covering home on the play when the Mets scored two on a passed ball.
19. Marcal Pierre is on the bubble.
20. Mets have already whiffed 12 Yankees through seven.
21. Your wire ain't my wire but I didn't follow the link to see the sore shoulder was leading to an IL assignment.
22. Everybody the booth talks with seemingly decides to suck up to David Cone.
23. Good to see the booth talk about "effective spin rate" being a key to getting batters to miss without having the velocity, a half inning after Sean Reid-Foley struck out the side. On the other hand, this isn't a game broadcast, so much as an interview show.
24. Sweet that the Yankees had gotten three runs back but then decided to run themselves out of the inning.
25. That would be sweet. And just as I'm typing, news spills over my wire that Justin Verlander will start the 2024 season on the injured list.
