  1. Young, man. Minus the seven weeks before the Mets got him, he's been everything we could have hoped for from Michael Bourne, hasn't he?
  2. How about that .000 fielding percentage?
  3. That's what happens when a pitcher takes a long rest. I blame Buck, just because.
  4. I'll say it. Muffy has become a defensive asset. A modest asset, but an asset nonetheless.
  5. Gotta make that play, Iko. That was a DP ball.
  6. Mejia already with seven strikeouts through four. I swear he was running off the mound before Cuddyer was done swinging there.
  7. First pitch shows a quick bat.
  8. Seor Doble is now Seor Triple!
  9. Number nine-six-zero is the birthday hero. The Mets, unlike Neil Diamond, bring you Flores.
  10. And forth my mimic comes. When they him spy, As wild geese that the creeping fowler eye, Suck it, creeping fowler.
  11. That's a weird-assed lineup. I'd think Murphy-Byrd-Davis going 3-4-5 through the lineup is where I'd start, but there aren't a lot of good choices. Maybe they're hoping tonight's the night to send Ike a message.
  12. Interesting, back on the team and healthy(-ish) for the Chicago series, he's probably still their best bet at shortstop tonight.

The doberman (named "Sangre de Joven") was Youngblood's. Thought of that too. Is there a picture of Kong with a German Shep? That would nail it. Here Kong is in his post-Met days with his baby, Bodie, who looks like a black lab --- a breed whose temperament is typically the exact oppostie of menacing. Free Kingman!
  14. Centerfield wrote: 4. Say nothing publicly, but behind the scenes insist on playing shortstop (which is what Jeter did). I remember him publicly insisting on playing shortstop, but perhaps that was more secondhand. Centerfield wrote: Jeter is a terrific ballplayer, and by all accounts, a fantastic guy. I've seen at least a few few accounts that diverge on this point.
  15. I'm so very proud. If there's anything I am consistently wrong at, it's guessing number assignments. That said, I'm definitely an advocate of not assigning the same number twice in one year.
  16. Wilmer Four-es.
  17. Four is the correct answer.
  18. Ernie Banks was an MVP at 27 and an MVP at 28. At 29, he was fourth in MVP voting and won a Gold Glove. At 31, they asked him to move to first, and he moved.
  19. Well, Pete Rose was one of the biggest, self-promoting jerks in the game's history, and he moved three times. Chipper Jones left third base to make way for a better fielder, and then came back. David Wright openly said he'd take any position on the field if the Mets acquired Rodriguez.
  20. He was asked specifically if he would mind if the Yankees acquired Rodriguez, and he specifically said, "No, as long as I'm the shortstop." He was a pre-emptive jerk, and pre-emptively challenged Torre's authority. That Torre backed down from that challenge is a related but different issue. Jeter bet that he had more juice than Torre and he bet right. Derek Jeter is no Mike Cameron.
  21. I agree that it seems capricious and arbitrary. But they say that have him on good that extend beyond drug violations. As we know, MLB doesn't make these punitive decisions in an open courtroom. (Perhaps they should, but that goes beyond the treatment of Rodriguez.) If they do got the goods on him, for violations beyond the drug policy that speak to the general agreement, and he continues to aggressively appeal, the particulars will come out. If they don't, that'll come out also.
  22. 8/5/2013 MLB New York Mets off. Pacific Coast League (AAA) Las Vegas 5, Memphis 2 Francisco Pea hit a three-run homer, Wilmer Flores prepared for his promotion by playing both first and third, and that dopey Jordany Valdespin served game one of his suspension. Chris Schwinny gets the win with six innings, giving up two runs, one earned, walking one and whiffing one. Lucas Duda walked in his only appearance. Eastern League (AA) Binghamton Mets off. That dopey Cesar Puello gets no game credited to his suspension. Florida State League (A+) St. Lucie Mets off. Team sits a half game out of first in the Southern Division. South Atlantic League (A) Savannah 6, Charleston 0 A great game as (1) Luis Cessa is absolutely dominant, pitching eight innings and striking out 12, while walking none and allowing only four hits, and (2) Brandon Nimmo went 3-4 with a double, homerun. New York-Penn League (SS A+) Brooklyn Cyclones off. You'd think they'd make sure a game was scheduled when the Mets were off. Applachian League (SS A) Kingsport Mets off. I don't like Mondays. Gulf Coast League ® GCL Mets 7, GCL Marlins 0. I don't like Mondays. RHP Octavio Acosta: 6 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 4 K Amazin' Avenue calls Luis Cessa the star of the night and I concur. SWEEP! A cheap sweep, but... SWEEP!
  23. Roberts was nailed for steroid use in 2005, a week after the Mets had released him.
