He has a lot to offer a team going forward. He is not pitching well, but it is not the end and it does not undo what good things he has wrought. -

Also worth noting about crowd size in Washington — a lot of good people have lost their jobs due to an insane and illegal purging of the federal workforce. -

Francisco Lindor and Brandon Nimmo have been climbing as impressively as Alonso this season. I guess next up for Pete is to chase Gil Hodges and Mel Ott for the New York National League record, if he chooses to accept that mission. Mauricio for Nimmo certainly was an option I was thinking of going for. It is hard to anticipate how the game would come down to a perfect Marte situation, but, it is probably the way I would have gone. Maurcio hasn't been to the plate in a few days, and needs his ups. -

Would you all have gone to Taylor? I probably would have, but he has barely seen any live pitching over the last three weeks. And, obviously, that is a result of him having a very bad season at the plate. So, in fairness, there were no great options at the end. -

Since they failed to tied the game with Mullins and Torrens, they haven't gotten anybody on, against what generally has been a very generous pen. Ronny Mauricio is possibly letting everybody know he could have pinch-hit there. -

Dom Smith would have picked that. Nathaniel Lowe would have picked that. Nick Johnson would have picked that. -
It is so curious how often a guy suffers some sort of hand trauma from a hit-by-pitch or sliding incident. The manager and trainer or trainers go out there and give him a thorough examination, but he is allowed to stay in the game, only to be removed the next half inning and hit the IL by the next day. It makes me wonder why they bother examining him at all if they leave him in the game while he's still hurt. MANAGER: "How do you feel?" PLAYER: "Aaah! I don't know. I'm just trying to shake off the throbbing and see." MANAGER: "Well, we're going to let Felix examine you and see how you're doing." TRAINER: "Can you grip my hand?" PLAYER: "Yeah, I think so." TRAINER: "Tighter." PLAYER: "How's that?" TRAINER: "Do you remember when we first met? PLAYER: "I thought you were such a snob!" TRAINER: "And I thought you were a daddy's girl." PLAYER: "You barely said anything to me!" TRAINER: "How could I? I was scared of you?" PLAYER: "Of me?!" MANAGER: "So what's your read, Felix?" TRAINER: "Just got a run through a few more things. Diego, let's have thumb war." PLAYER: "One-two-three-GO! Oh! AAAAH!! I jus ... Ah, you win!" TRAINER: "Want to do two out of three?" MANAGER: "Can we get ON with this?" TRAINER: "OK, Diego, show me the church." PLAYER: "Uhn." TRAINER: "That's good. Now show me the steeple." PLAYER: "AHHH!" TRAINER: "Great, now show me the people!" PLAYER: "Here they are!" TRAINER: "You're hi-LAR-ious!!" MANAGER: "Look, can he stay in the game or not?!" TRAINER: "Yeah, he is good to go." Trainer and manager jog back to dugout. Play resumes. MANAGER: "That was close." TRAINER: "What was close?" MANAGER: "His hand. I thought he was really hurt." TRAINER: "Oh, his hand? His hand all sorts of ****ed up. If we x-rayed it now, it would look like a maraca. He'll be out six to eight weeks minimum. Probably more." MANAGER: "Then what the **** is he in the game for?!" TRAINER: "Well, why waste a player? It's just his hand. You can take him out next inning. He doesn't need his hand to run the bases." MANAGER: "THAT'S HOW HE GOT HURT IN THE FIRST PLACE!" TRAINER: "And maybe he'll magically get better while he's out there. I'll examine him again when he gets back to the dugout." MANAGER: "PLEASE DON'T!!"

Expansion and Realignment (split from Aug 17 IGT)
Edgy MD replied to metirish's topic in New York Mets Talk
That's how I see it too. If you're going to scramble the teams that much, rename the leagues. Call them the Continental League and the Frontier League. Or Pioneer League. (I know that there are small independent leagues with those last two names, but I'm sure they'd listen to a reasonable offer.) Or as I said earlier, the Jackie Robinson League and the Roberto Clemente League. Or the Orange League and the Purple League. Or whatever! But keeping "National" and "American" after such a shakeup doesn't seem right. You are so begging for them to become The Coca-Cola League and The Draft Kings League. -

Pittsburgh and Cleveland must be really curious when they became mid-Atlantic cities.
