    Interesting how Lagares didn't dive for that first hit, which hit a foot or two in front of his glove. it was probably the right play for the game situation — you don't want to risk that ball getting past you and going for extra bases with two out and nobody on — but I've kind of gotten the idea that there's a code that defenders put it all on the line when trying to preserve a no-hitter, let alone a perfect game.

    Bonus residue from the shortened game: Seaworthy's fine inning of holding work gets retroactively transmogrified into a save. That gives him one more save than Jeurys Familia in 2019.

    Mets pull a half game ahead of the Phils in both the division race and le joker. Most other contending teams continue to win-win-win. I don't know whose idea it was to disallow waiver trades in after July 31 to keep teams from tanking, but it's not working. Outside of the Reds, the entire bottom of the bracket seems to be rolling over and dying. THANKS FOR NOTHING, PITTSBURGH! I HOPE YOU HAD A NICE PISS!
